Richard Nelson is a partner with the law firm of Sideman & Bancroft in San Francisco, California, specializing in IP and fraud enforcement. As a former federal prosecutor, a particular focus of Mr. Nelson’s practice is working with corporations to assist them in investigations to determine evidence by bad actors of trafficking in counterfeit products, and then addressing that conduct through criminal referral or civil resolution. Using New Technology to Combat Counterfeits: Brands Working with Customs

US Customs and Border Protection recently accepted a donation of the AGMA One Device, an authentication tool being used at key ports to assist in identifying and stopping counterfeits. The panel will explore what the technology is, how it is being used, and how companies can be involved. The panel will include representatives of major brands to provide concrete examples of how the technology has changed the enforcement landscape, and explore additional approaches used by Pharma brands to take a new approach to the standard enforcement models.
