Director, Patient Experience Data Policy and Best Practices - Abbvie
Jessica L. Abel, MPH is Director, Patient Experience Data (PED) Policy & Best Practices within the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research team at AbbVie. In this role, she is responsible for monitoring and translating PED policy and innovative methods into standards and best practices to elevate the impact of PED in medical product development. She has over 11 years of experience in Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) in the pharmaceutical industry developing evidence to support product reimbursement and optimal market access. Prior to joining AbbVie, Jessica speant 9 years at Allergan leading HEOR studies within the gastrointestinal therapeutic area. Her research assessing burden of illness and unmet medical needs and disease-related healthcare resource use and costs among patients with gastrointestinal disorders helped increase awareness and understanding of the impact of gastrointestinal diseases on patient health outcomes and helped shape the market to support several major product launches.
Jessica has also made significant contributions to the development and implementation of patient-reported outcome (PRO) instruments for both adult and pediatric populations as well as the establishment of real-world research platforms evaluating treatment use and health outcomes. Prior to joining Allergan, Jessica was a health outcomes fellow at Merck and completed a fellowship in science and technology policy at the National Academy of Sciences during which time she conducted health policy research at the Institute of Medicine in Washington, DC. Jessica holds an M.P.H in Epidemiology from The George Washington University. In her free time, she loves to travel with her family and enjoys yoga and going on long runs to explore new places.
